    2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR!

    August 30, 2018

    Dear Community Members,

The Tri-Valley Elementary School would like to cordially invite you to our Kindness Rock Wall unveiling presentation.  During the 2017-2018 school year, the Tri-Valley School District focused its energy on ensuring the continuation of a school climate free of harassment, bullying and violence.  With that, the District adopted the Rachel’s Challenge curriculum, as well as welcomed presenters from this non profit organization.

Rachel Joy Scott was the first person killed in the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999. But that was only the beginning of the story. After her death, many students reached out to Rachel’s family to share stories about the profound impact her simple acts of kindness had on their lives; even preventing one young man from taking his own life. They soon realized the transformational effect of Rachel’s story and started the the Rachel's Challenge organization.

Embracing Rachel’s legacy, the elementary faculty, staff, and students painted rocks aligned with the theme of spreading kindness.  Each rock represents our individual stakeholder’s vision of kindness. Upon completion the rocks were collected and preserved. They have since been affixed  to an exterior wall by one of our building and grounds crew members. We are excited this Kindness Rock Wall will be seen by all visitors that enter our building for years to come.

We would be honored to have you join us on September 12, 2018 (rain date of September 13th) at 6:30 PM in the front of the elementary building.  Our ceremony will include the acknowledgement of our Character in Action team, Friends of Rachel club student members, and all those that made this that made this project possible.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.  Hope to see you there!

    Thank you,

    Jennifer Williams
