• Attendance

Regular school attendance and punctuality are essential for learning and are expected of all students.

If your child will be absent you are asked notify the office. Please call 985-2296 ext. 5515 and leave a message or email an excuse to attendance@trivalleycsd.org.

A written excuse is required by New York State law each time a child is absent or tardy. This excuse should be sent to school on the day the child returns. The note, signed by a parent or guardian, should clearly state the date of and reason for the absence. You can expect a phone call and/or contact from the school if your child is absent and we have not been notified.

The NYS Department of Education recognizes the following as legal reasons for an absence:

    • Illness of pupil
    • llness or death of family member
    • Impassable roads
    • Religious observance
    • Quarantine
    • Required to be in court
    • Attendance at organized clinic, remedial health treatment, or approved cooperative work program
    • School sponsored trips

Students with excessive absences will be contacted by the classroom teacher and the school principal. A meeting may be scheduled with school staff if absences are affecting student learning. Parents are strongly encouraged to discuss special circumstances with the classroom teacher.

    The student day is 8:05 a.m. - 2:50 p.m.

Bus Arrival: Buses will release elementary school students beginning at 8 a.m.

Student Drop-off: Students not riding the bus should arrive no earlier than 7:55 a.m. at which time supervision is provided. Parents transporting their children should enter by the 34 Moore Hill Road Main Entrance, Student Drop-Off Area.

Parents who need to enter the building must park in designated spots. Cars are never permitted in the outer circle with the buses.

Bus Dismissal: Teachers will escort students to buses. Parents are not permitted to go directly to a bus at dismissal time.

Student Pick-up: At the end of the school day parents must use the blacktop area. Please arrive before dismissal (2:48 p.m.), sign your student out at the reception desk in the office, and depart prior to the buses exiting the school parking lot. You will not be permitted to drive in the outer or inner circles with the buses.

Students who attend school and arrive on time are more successful academically than students with excessive absences and late arrivals. Parents should make every effort to ensure that their child is on time. When excessive late arrivals and/or absences are affecting student performance, the teacher is expected to contact parents. If the problem persists the teacher will notify the principal for intervention.

Students who arrive late must sign in at the office. Parent notes must be brought in each time a child is late.

    • Students in Grades 5 and 6 are eligible for a perfect attendance certificate each quarter.
    • Late arrivals and early pick-ups will be counted if the student misses more than an hour of instruction.
    • There will be a review of medically excused absences to determine if there is a documented medical problem.
    • Weather or bus related absences are not counted against a student.
    • Take Your Child to Work Day is not counted against a student.
