US History and Government Regents Exam: The New York State Department of Education is canceling the administration of the Regents Examination in United States History and Government (Framework) for June 2022. This test was originally scheduled to be given on June 1, 2022. At the June 2022 Board of Regents meeting, the Department will ask the Board to approve a graduation exemption for students scheduled to take the Regents Exam in United States History and Government (Framework) next month. (excerpt from Commissioner Rosa’s “Dear Colleague” letter dated May 24, 2022). If approved, students with a passing average in the course will be exempted from having to take and pass the United States History and Government (Framework) exam to meet graduation requirements.
All other Regents exams scheduled from June 15- June 23 will be given. Students are expected to take course specific Regents exams. There is no “opt out” or refusal options. The Department of Education has provided an appeal process for all Regents exams given in June. Students who have a passing average, in the respective courses, for the year and score between 50-64 (65 is passing) may appeal for an exemption. If approved, the student will be provided graduation credit for passing the respective Regents exams. Please contact your student’s guidance counselor for more information or to discuss how these changes may affect your student.
