SUPERINTENDENT’S UPDATE | New graduation guidelines allow larger crowd, eliminate COVID-19 vaccine, test requirements

Dear parents/guardians of the Class of 2021,

I want to take a moment to congratulate you on your child’s accomplishments this year and also thank you for your continued support in what has been a very challenging period of time. As we approach the finale of your child’s young educational career, that being graduation, I wanted to share with you the most recent changes to guidelines for those that will attend the graduation ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, June 26 at 10:00 AM at the latauro Athletic Complex.

On Monday, May 24 I received official notification from the New York State Department of Health that the guidelines for people attending “medium outdoor events” had changed Specifically, the number of spectators was increased from the original 200 to 500. Also, and more importantly, I was informed that if the crowd in attendance was less than the 500 limit, no protocols were needed for anyone to attend the event!

That’s right, anyone with a ticket may attend the event and DOES NOT need to meet one of the aforementioned criteria of being vaccinated, having had COVID 90 days prior to the ceremony or being tested within 72 hours of the ceremony. Obviously, this is great news and will hopefully encourage some families that chose not to attend previously to do so now.

Only those individuals having tickets will be permitted access to the reserved seating area. Those without tickets will be permitted to sit on the bleachers or (recommended) bring a lawn chair to sit on the outside of the fence to watch the ceremony. Also, the event will be livestreamed by the District for anyone that wishes to view the event from home. This is a rain or shine event so please plan accordingly!

Important

All in attendance will be required to wear a face mask and remain socially distanced at all times! Family members living in the same household will be permitted to sit together.

Anyone not in compliance will be escorted from the facility immediately!

As new information becomes available I will be sure to share it with you. Again, thank you and hope to see everyone soon!
