Tri-Valley Athletes Dominate at NYS Track & Field Championships

Tri-Valley’s track and field team made a powerful showing at the New York State Championships on June 13-14, with eight athletes competing in 14 events and returning home with an impressive haul: three Class C state titles, two silver medals, and multiple top-eight finishes at the Federation level.

Van Furman led the way, capturing both the Class C and NYS Federation titles in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a blazing time of 9:10.41—the fastest in the nation this year. Van also placed third in the 3200 meters and seventh in the 1600 meters (Class C). With five individual state titles and seven overall, including two team cross-country championships, Van is now the most decorated male track athlete in Tri-Valley history.

Anna Furman added to the medal count, winning the Class C 2000-meter steeplechase in 7:00.30, earning eighth place in the Federation. She also took second in the Class C 3000 meters (eighth in Federation), seventh in the 1500 meters, and ran the second leg of the 4×800-meter relay, which placed fifth in Class C. Competing in four of the most grueling distance events of the meet, Anna showcased remarkable endurance and versatility.

Kane Poje, a rising sophomore, earned his first state title in the Class C shot put with a throw of 53’11.25″, also securing eighth place in the Federation.

Sophia Richardson had a standout meet, setting a new school record in the 400 meters with a time of 56.51, placing second in Class C and qualifying for the New Balance Nationals. She also finished fifth in the 200 meters, competed in the 100-meter dash, and anchored the 4×800-meter relay team to a fifth-place Class C finish.

Allyson Chevalier placed sixth in the Class C 2000-meter steeplechase and led off the 4×800-meter relay, while Emma Richardson ran a strong third leg to help secure the team’s placement.

Logan Weyant (pole vault) and Dakota Evans (discus) also represented Tri-Valley in their first-ever state championships, gaining valuable experience and showcasing the program’s growing depth.

As the meet concluded, Tri-Valley’s athletes stood tall—three Class C state champions, two silver medalists, and numerous top finishes at the Federation level. Their performance speaks volumes about the talent, resilience, and strength of Tri-Valley’s track and field program.
