Despite a winter season shaped by difficult weather and demanding conditions, the Tri-Valley indoor track and field teams have delivered one of the most successful seasons in school history.
Both the boys and girls teams finished as close runners-up at sectionals and captured their fifth consecutive OCIAA Divisional Championships, continuing a tradition of excellence for the program. Along the way, Tri-Valley athletes shattered six school records and produced numerous personal bests and all-time class marks.
Now, two standout athletes will represent Tri-Valley at the New York State Indoor Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, and both will continue their seasons on the national stage.
State Championship Qualifiers
Kane Poje has qualified in both the shot put and weight throw. He was the only Section 9 athlete to qualify for the state championships in two individual events, a rare accomplishment that underscores his dominance this season.
Poje won both events at sectionals and set a new school record in the weight throw with a massive toss of 75 feet, 3.5 inches. In doing so, he broke Ryan Loughney’s 2007 record, a mark that had stood for 19 years.
Anna Furman punched her ticket to states by winning the 3000-meter run. Furman also set a school record earlier this season in the 600 meters, adding to her standout year.
Nationals Bound
Following the state meet, both athletes will compete at the New Balance Nationals Indoor in Boston.
Kane Poje will compete in the shot put on Friday, March 13, 2026, and the weight throw on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Anna Furman will run in the two-mile on Friday, March 13, 2026.
Competing at Nationals places both athletes among the top high school competitors in the country and caps what has already been a historic season for the program.
This winter, Tri-Valley athletes combined to set six school records:
Logan Weyant – High Jump and Triple Jump
Savannah Chaboty – Pole Vault
Kane Poje – Shot Put and Weight Throw
Anna Furman – 600m
Tri-Valley wishes Kane and Anna the very best as they compete against the top athletes in New York State this weekend. Good luck at states!
