Sullivan County Long Beards

Description: The purpose of the NWTF Dr. James Earl Kennamer Academic Scholarship Program is to recognize and reward an NWTF member, who is currently a senior in high school, for their outstanding academic achievement, community involvement and leadership roles.

Mid-Hudson Chapter of New York State Association of School Business Officials

Due: 2/28/25

Description: The Mid-Hudson Chapter of the NYS Association of School Business Officials is offering four (4) five-hundred dollar ($500) scholarship awards to graduating students from school districts in Orange, Ulster, Sullivan, or Dutchess County who are pursuing a degree in Business, Finance and/or Education.

Eligibility:
Applicants will be:

  • Graduating students in good academic standing planning a post-secondary course study in the field of business, finance, and/or education.
  • Selected from the graduating class of a Mid-Hudson ASBO member district whose School Business 

    Official is a member in good standing and actively employed by said district. Dues must be paid in full for the current school year.

    Description: The Sullivan County Shields , an organization of active and retired law enforcers and supporters, intends to offer scholarship monies for a senior who will graduate in June and who intends to pursue some branch of law
    enforcement as a career.

    Sullivan Veterans Coalition

    Description: This scholarship was created to support the veteran community and future leaders.

    To qualify you must: be a relative of a veteran , must be pursuing a degree, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    Veterans Coalition Scholarship

    Peter H. Cahalan Scholarship

    Due: 4/14/2025

    Description: This Fund was created by Peter’s family and friends to honor his memory and celebrate his life. Peter was an avid sportsman since childhood. His commitment as a banker and community volunteer to the residents of Sullivan County and his hometown of Monticello was remarkable!

    Eligibility:

    • This scholarship is open to graduating seniors in Sullivan County Schools (Eldred, Fallsburg, Liberty, Livingston Manor, Monticello, Roscoe, Sullivan West, Tri- Valley)
    • Student must plan on attending a two or four year college/university.
    • Must have an average of 85 or higher
    • Must have an interest in the finance or sports fields of study
    • Must demonstrate their commitment to their community

    Albert M Pavese Jr Scholarship

    Eligibility: 

    • Open to graduating high school seniors from Westchester, Orange, and Sullivan Counties, with preference given to applicants who are graduating from the Yonkers City School District.
    • Must be pursuing a degree in Science
    • Has a minimum GPA of 3.0
    • Participates in community service activities
    • Must provide a 250‐word essay describing how science and community service have played a role in your life and what your plans are for the future.

    Daniel Thalmann Scholarship

    Devin Michael Housman Memorial Scholarship

    Due: 4/14/2025

    Eligibility: 

    • Must have special education classifications (IEPs)
    • 300-word essay answering the question: “How do you plan to use your artistic abilities to change the world for the better?”
    • Submit three samples of artwork identifying the medium used. Preference will be given to work done free hand without the aid of a computer

    Dr. Nathan L Rosenblum Scholarship

    Due: 4/14/2025

    Eligibility:

    • Preference given to students pursuing Spiritual Studies (of mystical, metaphysical, esoteric, occult character). If there are no applicants that meet this, students studying Humanities will be considered.
    • Scholarship opportunity is open to graduating seniors from all Orange and
      Sullivan County schools.

    Earle and Elizabeth Wilde Scholarship

    Due: 4/14/2025

    Eligibility:

    • Candidate must be a resident of Sullivan County and a graduating high school senior attending a Sullivan County high school.
    • Preference will be given to a graduating senior whose family is actively engaged in agriculture.
    • Consideration will be given to the graduating senior who was engaged in FFA, 4-H or other youth program.
    • An essay of no less than 500 words is required of the applicant, stating financial need, goals, background, grades, extra-curricular activities and community service.
    • One letter of recommendation.

    Eligibility:

    • Open to all graduating seniors from New York or New Jersey who are pursuing a career in nursing or one of the following allied healthcare fields: Audiology &
      Speech Pathology, Behavioral Science, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, or Social Work.
    • Applicants must participate in community service.
    • A 300-word essay discussing why you have chosen to pursue a career in healthcare is required.

    Matthew R. Bertholf Scholarship

    Eligibility:

    • The Scholarship is open to graduating seniors of Tri-Valley Central School District, who plan to attend college or further their vocational education upon
      graduation.
    • Candidates must be planning to continue their education in the field of trades and applied technology.
    • Candidates must write an essay of no greater than two (2) pages, explaining future plans, reason or entering the field of trades and applied technology, and why they believe they deserve this scholarship.

    Nebrasky Foundation Scholarship

    Eligibility:

    • Students must reside in Hudson Valley.

      Where are you planning on attending school or starting your apprenticeship?
      What is your short-term post graduate goal (education/entering work force)?Why did you select this career path?

    Periwinkle Fund for the Arts Scholarship

    Due : 4/14/2025

    Eligibility:

    • Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 will be awarded, annually, to a deserving Sullivan County graduating High School Senior who has demonstrated a commitment to continue his/her education in the field of performing arts and/or arts education.
    • Applicant has demonstrated passion, commitment and promise in some aspect of the performing arts.
    • Applicants must provide a strong letter of recommendation from a High School teacher, drama coach or other pertinent professional.
    • Applicants must submit an essay expressing his/her worthiness to receive this award.
    • Applicants must have plans to further his/ her education in some aspect of the performing arts (i.e. performing, writing, composing, design, direction, business, marketing, teaching, or education.)

    Roy D. Parker Scholarship

    Due: 4/14/2025

    Eligibility:

    • Be an Orange County or Sullivan County resident, enrolled in or planning to enroll in SUNY Orange, Mount St. Mary College, or Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine- Middletown, NY.
    • Must be matriculated in a degree or certificate program and be enrolled as a full-time student, minimum of 12 credits per semester.

    Sullivan County Farm Bureau

    Due: 4/15/25

    Description: The Sullivan County Farm Bureau is pleased to offer two  scholarships of $500 each to support students pursuing their education. Please review the following guidelines carefully before submitting your application.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • Applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution or trade school.
    • Preference will be given to applicants who are Farm Bureau members or whose families are members.
    • A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required to receive scholarship funds and must be maintained in their post-secondary program.

    Claryville Fire Department Scholarship

    Due: 5/1/25

    Description: Applicant must reside in Claryville Fire District or be a member of the Claryville Volunteer Fire Department (either active or associate) or a child or grandchild of a member from the Claryville Volunteer Fire Department

    Sullivan County Trail Association Scholarship

    Due:  5/1/25

    Description:  To quality, the applicant must be a senior in a Sullivan County High School or whose parents/guardians are members in good standing of the Sullivan County Trail Association and who plans on a majoring in an environmental field such as: forestry preservation, wildlife management, environmental biology, soil & water conservation, etc.

    Sullivan County Bar Association IRA Jay Cohen Scholarship

    Due: 5/1/25

    Description: The Sullivan County Bar Association established the Ira Jay Cohen Scholarship in 2016 to honor the memory of Ira Jay Cohen, a life-long resident of Sullivan County and member of the Bar Association. Mr. Cohen enjoyed a long and illustrious career as both private attorney and public servant, having served as Sullivan County Public Defender (1972-1975), Sullivan County Attorney (1996-2004) and Sullivan County Treasurer (2006 – 2014). The Scholarship will be awarded in June 2025 to two (2) local high school students expected to graduate in June 2025 who will be attending college in the Fall of 2025 with an anticipated career in public service or law. The amount of each scholarship will be $ 750.00.

    Tri-Valley Lions Club Service Award

    Due: 5/2/25

    Description: Service award to recognize outstanding service to school and community. Application form required.

    How to apply: You need a letter outlining the reasons for consideration and accompanied by a detailed list of accomplishments and expectations to the Tri-Valley Lions Club Awards Committee by returning it to your School Guidance Counselor no later than May 2, 2024. Documents MUST BE TYPED OR PRINTED LEGIBLY and signed by the student’s guidance counselor as to the authenticity of content. A minimum of two letters of recommendation from members of the school district, community acquaintances, employers, etc. are required. Must include copies of community service/volunteerism forms as well. Print out a copy of the application or go into the guidance office to get one.

    Neversink Rondout Antique Machinery Scholarship

    Due: 5/2/25

    Description & Eligibility: The Applicant may use the scholarship to study any field related to heavy equipment, automotive mechanics or agriculture at any accredited academic or vocational school.

    To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

    • Achieve a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in your Sullivan county home school and career and technical education during Junior and Senior years.
    • Illustrate a commitment to the fields of heavy equipment, automotive mechanics or agriculture by either graduation from a related program at Sullivan County BOCES or related work efforts outside of school.
    • Be accepted as a full time student at an accredited academic or vocation institution

    Beth A. Clark Memorial Scholarship

    Description & Eligibility Requirements: The Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship will be awarded to a Sullivan County student pursuing a degree in education and has been accepted to an accredited college. Applicants must submit the application, two letters of recommendation from two different faculty members that discuss the applicant’s teaching potential, and an official high school transcript for consideration.

    Nellie Burnham

    Description & Eligibility Requirements: Nellie was a co-founding member of the Woodland Weavers and Spinners Guild, a lifetime teacher, master spinner and weaver and in her spirit of teaching a scholarship is being offered in her name. The recipient should be a person who wants to teach, preferably in the field of fiber arts. We would also accept someone who wants to learn to spin or weave.

    Mike J. Schulte Scholarship

    Eligibility Requirements: Graduating students, in good academic standing, with an average of 80 or above, who are planning to pursue a post-secondary course of study, at a two or four year college or technical school.

    Grace Johansen Memorial Scholarship

    Due : 5/11/25

    Description: Started in 2017, the Grace Johansen Memorial Scholarship provides support to community-engaged Sullivan County high school seniors to assist with the costs of college. Scholarship recipients receive $750 to use toward any expenses they wish as they begin their journey in higher education. Any student in Sullivan County who meets the scholarship’s eligibility requirements may apply. The scholarship application is every spring, and recipients will be notified in June.

    The Lloyd Botsford Scholarship Fund

    Due : 5/15/25

    Description: To be considered for the Lloyd Botsford Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Be enrolled in an accredited educational institution
    • Show active involvement in community service or volunteer work
    • Exhibit qualities of kindness, generosity, and a willingness to help others
    • Submit a completed application form along with an essay detailing how they embody Lloyd’s values, future aspirations, reasons for entering the field of trades, applied technology and applied sciences ( including but not limited to : electrician, carpentry, welding, masonry, cosmetology, nursing) and why you feel you deserve this scholarship

    The Loch Sheldrake Senior Club Scholarship

    Description: Awarded by the Loch Sheldrake Senior Citizens Club in honor of Alice Walter, a long-time Fallsburg Guidance Counselor

    Grahamsville Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship

    Tri-Valley Teacher Association

    Due: 5/16/25

    Description & Eligibility: The Tri-Valley Teachers’ Association is proud to offer a scholarship to graduating seniors from Tri-Valley Central School who plan to pursue a career in education or a related field that supports students within a school setting.

    To be considered, applicants must:

    •  Be a graduating senior from Tri-Valley Central School.
    • Be accepted to and planning to attend a two- or four-year college.
    •  Be pursuing a degree in education or a related field that will support students in a school setting (e.g., school counseling, speech and language, occupational therapy, etc.).
    • Have a cumulative high school average of 85% or higher.
    • Have participated in at least two school-related activities.
    • Have completed at least one community service experience. ● Submit two letters of recommendation, at least one from a teacher. ● Submit a copy of your high school transcript.

    Frost Valley YMCA Scholarship

    Due: 5/23/25

    Description: Frost Valley YMCA is offering scholarship awards, totaling up to one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) to eligible, graduating seniors from the Tri-Valley Central School District.

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • Graduating students, in good academic standing, who are planning to pursue a post-secondary course of study, at a two or four year college or technical school and
    • Past or current participants, employees or volunteers of a Frost Valley YMCA program, including: Summer Day Camp.

    Any Make Any Model Car Club Scholarship

    Due: 5/30/25

    Description & Eligibility: This is a 500.00 scholarship open to any student interested in pursuing a career in the automotive field. This scholarship is good for any college or trade school the applicant will be attending.

    Neversink EMS

    Due: 6/6/25

    Description & Eligibility Requirements: This award will be given annually to a graduating senior who best meets the following criteria:

    • College major must be in a health related field or human sciences field.
    • Successful completion of high school with a GPA of 80 or better.
    • Brief essay (250-300 words) of why they have chosen the health field.
    • Submit a copy of current transcript.
    • Provide the name of the college you will be attending or hope to attend.
    • Submit the above to the Guidance Office by June 06, 2025 3:00PM.

    Dean Winters Scholarship

    Due: 6/6/25

    Description & Eligibility Requirements: The Dean Winters scholarship will go to an athlete looking to attend a two or four year college. We are looking for an applicant that can tell us about themselves, what they love to do and how it has helped them grow into the person they are today. A very simple few paragraph essay would be more than enough to pick the best candidate.

    Sullivan Promise Scholarship Application

    Eligibility Requirements and Criteria:

    • The applicant must submit a free SUNY Sullivan admissions application. Click here to apply.
    • A high school transcript or copy of GED with test scores must be submitted to admissions@sunysullivan.edu. A final official transcript must be submitted after graduation.
    • Recipients must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) applications and turn in all documents before the start of the semester. Students who cannot complete a FAFSA must complete the TAP application and the Senator Jose A. Peralta application (hesc.ny.gov).
    • Sullivan Promise Scholarship funds are awarded to 2025 high school graduates or GED recipients who meet all of the following requirements: a) Have been a Sullivan County resident for at least two years. b) Enroll and complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester. c) The recipient must be in the graduating class or earn a GED preceding the start of their first semester of study.
    • The Sullivan Promise Scholarship award will be granted for fall and spring semesters, as well as summer and winter, provided qualifications are met.
    • To remain eligible for the scholarship, the student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and complete all financial aid requirements each academic year.

    Honorable Louis B Scheinman

    Description: This scholarship is open to seniors graduating from Sullivan County who demonstrate financial need, Scholarship, the qualities that Scheinman exemplified such as compassion, warmth, friendship, and a natural inclination to see the best in people. The applicant must also be an eager and inquisitive student. They also need to be active not just academically, but community minded with involvement in the community and school extracurricular activities. The application must also include a completed application that includes a resume, copy of student aid or FAFSA form, transcript including SAT or ACT scores, letter of recommendation from your guidance counselor, email address, mailing address, phone number and fax for the guidance office.
