Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated®-David S. Bagley, Sr. Memorial Scholarship -Mid-Hudson Valley, New York

Due: 3/22/24

  • Description: Applicant must be a high school senior residing in Dutchess, Orange, Ulster or Sullivan Counties. Applicants must enroll in a full-time undergraduate program no later than the fall of their graduation from H.S. Applicants must submit a 2×2 inches wallet size headshot photo of him/her/them.
    Applicants must also have the following:
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average of 85 or better by June 30th of their junior year.
  • School and community involvement
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Effective oral and written communication skill

Sullivan County Shields

Description: Sullivan County Shields  is an organization of active and retired law enforcers and supporters. They intend to offer scholarship monies for a senior who intends to pursue some branch of law enforcement as a career.

Mid-Hudson Chapter of New York State Association of School Business Officials

Due: 3/29/24

Description: The Mid-Hudson Chapter of the NYS Association of School Business Officials is offering four (4) five-hundred dollar ($500) scholarship awards to graduating students from school districts in Orange, Ulster, Sullivan, or Dutchess County who are pursuing a degree in Business, Finance and/or Education.

Eligibility:
Applicants will be:

  • Graduating students in good academic standing planning a post-secondary course study in the field of business, finance, and/or education.
  • Selected from the graduating class of a Mid-Hudson ASBO member district whose School Business 

Official is a member in good standing and actively employed by said district. Dues must be paid in full for the current school year.

Sullivan Veterans Coalition

Description: This scholarship was created to support the veteran community and future leaders.

To qualify you must: be a relative of a veteran , must be pursuing a degree, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Veterans Coalition Scholarship 

Masonic War Veterans Beth-el Post #29 Scholarship

Due: 4/5/24

Description: Beth-El Post #29, Masonic War Veterans of the State of New York, a subordinate body of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in the State of New York, awards a total of 10 (ten) $100.00 (One Hundred Dollar) scholarships annually to eligible graduating seniors of schools in Orange and Sullivan Counties (and Ellenville).

The applicant must meet at least one of the following requirements:

A) Be a first or second generation descendant (child or grandchild) of an honorably discharged veteran. Provide veterans name, branch of service, and service dates.

B) Be involved/member of a military style organization (JROTC, Civil Air Patrol, New York National Guard Child and Youth Program (NYNGCYP), etc.).

C) Have already enlisted (Delayed Enlistment Program) or plan on serving in the U.S. Armed Forces after graduation. Provide details of military plans.

Tau Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society

Due: 4/19/24

Description: Each year Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society give two Grants-in -Aid Awards to senior girls who are entering the teaching profession. Only girls from schools where there presently are or have been, Tau Chapter members are eligible. All application should be returned to the Guidance Counselor, who will choose one candidate whose serious intent is to enroll in the field of teaching. We will consider only one application from each school and will not make choices if sent several applications. Selection of the candidate should be based on the following: Character, potential for teaching, personality, and scholarship. The selected candidate’s completed form, picture, transcript, letter of recommendations and contact phone number and email are required.

Sullivan County Probation Officers Association (Jacob E. Gunther memorial scholarship)  

Due: 4/22/24

Description: This scholarship is in honor of Jacob E. Gunther, III. Criteria for consideration include academic achievement, community service, financial need and acceptance to a college or university to pursue a degree in criminal justice.

Jay Wheeler Memorial Scholarship (Sullivan County Assessor’s Association)

Due: 4/26/24

Description:
Any college bound senior planning to attend a two or four year college. Include a copy of your Financial Aid Form. Write a letter telling us why you want and need assistance. Explain your education plans in detail. Give us an indication of your own and family contributions and any special circumstances that may have adversely affected your family’s financial situation. Include a copy of the financial aid package you have received from the college you will be attending.

How to apply: Go to the guidance office to get a copy for the application, and cover sheet. Once you complete the application, bring it back to the guidance office.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s PBA, (Debra Hall Memorial Scholarship

Due: 4/30/24

Description: This scholarship is for a graduating senior pursuing a career in the field of Veterinary Science or the animal sciences.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s PBA, (Robert Chemery’s Memorial Scholarship

Due: 4/30/24

Description: Students who are entering the field of criminal justice or any police related field.  Scholarship is based on academics, community service and financial need.  Must be a Sullivan County resident.

Claryville Volunteer Fire Department Scholarship

Description: A student is eligible for the scholarship if they are a resident in the fire district or a child/grandchild of a member.

Ira Jay Cohen Scholarship

Due: 5/1/24

Description: Graduating senior who is pursuing a degree in public service or law. Application, essay, transcript and resume.

How to apply:

Personal Background Information

  • Personal statement (500-1000 words) introducing us to who you are, what you enjoy and why you are considering a career in public service or law.

Academic Information

  • Name of high school; GPA; class rank; AP and honors courses; expected graduation date;
    (A copy of your transcript or resumé with this information will suffice);
  • Name and location of college you will attend in the Fall of 2022, if known, or the names and locations of schools you are considering;
  •  Your intended academic major or area of study, if known.Miscellaneous Information

Tri-Valley Teachers Association

Due: 5/1/24

Description: This scholarship is funded by the members of the Tri-Valley Teachers’ Association to encourage teaching as a career and to support the expense of higher education.

How to apply: To apply for this scholarship students should:
▪ Intend to major in education or a related professional area that supports teachers and learners in a school setting.
▪ Have a cumulative average of at least 85.
▪ Be a candidate for a Regents diploma.
▪ Have participated in at least one school activity.
▪ And have been accepted at a two or four year college.
Candidates must submit all parts of this application and may be scheduled for an interview with members of the scholarship committee at a mutually convenient time. Visit the guidance office to pick up an application. Once it is complete please bring it back to the guidance office

Tri-Valley Lions Club Service Award

Due: 5/2/24

Description: Service award to recognize outstanding service to school and community. Application form required.

How to apply: You need a letter outlining the reasons for consideration and accompanied by a detailed list of accomplishments and expectations to the Tri-Valley Lions Club Awards Committee by returning it to your School Guidance Counselor no later than May 2, 2024. Documents MUST BE TYPED OR PRINTED LEGIBLY and signed by the student’s guidance counselor as to the authenticity of content. A minimum of two letters of recommendation from members of the school district, community acquaintances, employers, etc. are required. Must include copies of community service/volunteerism forms as well. Print out a copy of the application or go into the guidance office to get one.

Time and Valleys Museum Scholarship

Due: 5/6/24

Description: Graduating students, in good academic standing, with an average of 80 or above, who are planning to pursue a post-secondary course of study at a two-or four- year college or technical school and willing to volunteer 15 hours at the Time and the Valleys Museum over the summer.

How to apply: Go to the guidance office and pick up an application. To apply you will need your transcript, and a 1 page essay. . To submit your application please bring it back to the guidance office.

Louis B. Scheinman Scholarship

Due: 5/10/24

Description: Students should exemplify compassion, warmth, friendship, and natural inclination to see the best in people. Selection is based on financial need, scholarship, and personal qualities.  Application form, FAF, recommendations, and interview.

Louis B. Scheinman Memorial Scholarship

Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs of Sullivan County

Due: 5/15/24

Description: Eligibility- Students must be a resident of Sullivan County. Students must be sponsored by a member of the Federation of Sportsmen’s Club. (parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle etc.) Students should be graduating with a minimum 80 grade point average. Students must be pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher education in a New York State School (College, University, Technical College, Community College, Junior College) with focus on preserving and protecting the environment. (Ex: environmental science, wildlife biology, DEC officer, law enforcement, fisheries, green technology). Students must support the preservation of the hunting/fishing traditions and be an active participant in hunting and/or fishing sports. Students must submit a copy of his/her hunting and/or fishing license. Involvement in school activities is a plus. (Clubs, Student Government, athletics, music, etc.). Community involvement is a plus (Scouts, 4-H, civic group or club, fire department, church, volunteer work). Students must submit an essay and an autobiography exhibiting dedication to the preservation of natural resources. (See scoring rubric for details on each) Three letters of recommendation must be attached to the application (teacher, counselor, community leader, etc.)

Description: Students who are entering the field of education. Application form required, along with a typed up paragraph and resume.

How to apply: Visit the guidance office for the application or print it out from Naviance. Please attach the paragraph and resume once you submit it back to the guidance office.

Woodbourne Activities Committee

Due: 5/17/24

Description: Scholarship presented to Woodbourne Fire District residents.
1. High school transcript, grades 9-12, with extra curricular activities.
2. A business letter, not more than 200 words, stating why you should be considered for the scholarship, what your intended field of endeavor will be, and any school and community involvement, other than academic.
3. Letters of recommendation (minimum of three) stating why the writer thinks you are deserving of this scholarship. Letters of recommendation for college admission will not be accepted.
All criteria must be strictly met. Applicant must be a resident of the Woodbourne Fire District. All applications will be seriously considered, regardless of academic achievement.

Sullivan County Teacher’s Council-Albert Shanker Scholarship

Due: 5/17/24

Description: Graduating senior whose parent is a member of the faculty locals (teacher) and the senior is pursuing a career in education, international studies or labor relations. Seniors should also be in the top fifth of their class. Application and essay required.

How to apply: Print out a copy from Naviance or visit the guidance office to get a paper copy. Once you have completed the application, turn it back into the guidance department.

United Way of Sullivan County

Due: 5/17/24

Description:  The United Way of Sullivan County has focused on assisting Sullivan County residents in times of need/emergency. Please share how you have involved yourself in community service.

How to apply: Please print out a copy from Naviance or get a hard copy from the guidance office. Once you have completed it, please turn it back into guidance.

Brian Ingber Memorial Foundation Annual Recognition Award

Due: 5/22/24

Description: Graduating senior in Sullivan County who exemplifies the ideals of volunteerism, service within community/school, good character and is well rounded. Available for students seeking employment that demonstrate commitment to community service or is furthering their education in fields of study that improve quality of life in the community. Application, essay, resume and letter of recommendation.

How to apply: Print out a hard copy from Naviance, or pick it up from the guidance office. You must submit a completed application, a brief letter outlining the reason for consideration, and a letter of rec.

Any Make Any Model Car Club Scholarship

Due: 5/30/24

Description: This is a $500.00 Scholarship open to any student interested in pursuing a career in the automotive field. 

How to apply: You will need your transcript and a complete essay to apply. Print out an application from Naviance or go to the guidance department for an application. Once you have completed the application return it to the guidance office.

Neversink Fire Dept. EMS (Charles Nielsen EMS Scholarship)

Due: 6/7/24

Description: College major must be in a health related field or human sciences field.
2. Successful completion of high school with a GPA of 80 or better.
3. Brief essay (250-300 words) of why they have chosen the health field.
4. Submit a copy of the current transcript.
5. Provide the name of the college you will be attending or hope to attend.
6. Submit the above to the Guidance Office by June 07, 2024 3:00PM.

Sullivan 180 Scholarships

Due: 8/19/24

Description: For an application to be considered the candidate must be a resident of Sullivan County and able to demonstrate that they have volunteered for a 2024 Sullivan 180 project in a significant way. Volunteer activities include gardening, caring for public spaces, project documentation, outreach or fundraising. Prospective candidates are encouraged to read through the application and respond to all questions thoroughly. Determination and award amounts will be made based on the extent of the applicant’s volunteerism.

How to apply: Scholarship applications must be completed electronically via the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan’s Online Portal.
The completed application includes the submission of:
• A typewritten personal essay explaining the applicant’s Sullivan 180 volunteer experience and how it impacted them personally
• A letter of recommendation from the project leader
• One additional letter of recommendation from a member of the community or other non-relative.
• Photos of the applicant during their volunteer experience (2 or 3)
