Sullivan 180 Grant Supports Forest School Training for Tri-Valley Elementary Staff

Eleven Tri-Valley Elementary School staff members recently participated in Forest School training, made possible through funding from the District’s Sullivan 180 competition grant. The professional development opportunity focused on helping educators incorporate outdoor learning experiences into their instruction while making meaningful connections to the core academic curriculum.

Forest School training provides educators with practical strategies and creative approaches to using natural environments as extensions of the classroom. Through outdoor exploration and hands-on learning, teachers can encourage curiosity, strengthen problem-solving skills, build student confidence, and support social-emotional development.

The training also emphasized opportunities to connect outdoor experiences with classroom instruction, allowing students to engage with academic concepts in new and meaningful ways. By incorporating the natural environment into everyday learning, educators can create experiences that encourage collaboration, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the world around them.

This professional development opportunity reflects Tri-Valley’s continued commitment to providing engaging, meaningful learning experiences that foster curiosity, resilience, and confidence in all students.

The District looks forward to seeing how participating staff members incorporate these strategies into their classrooms and outdoor learning spaces throughout the school year.
